Google Maps/URL/Voice Thread

Voice thread:
DEFINITION:

An online media album that can hold essentially any type of media (images, documents, and videos) and allows people to make comments.”
Crane, B. E. (2009). Using web 2.0 tools in the K-12 classroom. Neal-Schuman Publishers.
,Pg.3
CONNECTION: Hearing a recording of their own voice enable student to hear sounds differently. In the younger grades I have yet to meet a student that doesn't like to talk into a microphone. This open numerous possibilities for students to become story tellers and authors and hear their own stories.

URL’s:
DEFINITION:
"Each web site has a URL, or Uniform Resource Locator, assigned to it. These are their addresses and how web sites are found."

(2011, May 03). The web 2.0 glossary - a list of web 2.0 terms defined. website: http://webtrends.about.com/od/web20/a/web20-glossary.htm

CONNECTION:
It is sad to say that until this project, I had heard the term URL, used the term but never truly new what it meant or stood for! I need to be current and educated on web20 terms to enhance my classroom and be able to educate my students, who might know more than me in the world of technology!
Google maps:
DEFINITION:
a “free” web mapping service application and technology that powers many map-based services. Bonk shares an example, “They can travel to places mentioned in the diary through an embedded google map of the location.”   Bonk, C. J. (2009). The world open: How web technology is revolutionizing education. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass.p335.

CONNECTION: This is a unique way to show children about various places we are studying or locate places we have read about. For the young child it is great to show a multi dimensional look at the world around them.
