CONNECTION:

As this class comes to an end, I can say I have fully experiences E-Learning. I have broadened my horizons and stretched my learning capacity and much of this could not have been done as well without the experience of participating in this fully online class!

Movie Maker/Assessment/Digital Story Telling

Movie Maker: 

DEFINITION:

“Video creating and editing software bundled with the Microsoft Windows operating system.”

CONNECTION:

Teachers can create video to coincide with music and in the younger grades this can make the tune more meaningful as well as expose the children to things they are not familiar with.

Assessment:

CONNECTION: Assessment is an important part of my classroom, but I need to create lessons that are able to expand my students knowledge base so that they can do more than just answer a multiple choice question on a test.

CONNECTION: Using the web, allowing my students to be exposed to various types of literature not only broadens my students literary base but assist with students who may need extra help with reading, challenge students who are above grade level in their reading or assist me in reaching other students when I am working with a separate group.

Google Maps/URL/Voice Thread

CONNECTION: Hearing a recording of their own voice enable student to hear sounds differently. In the younger grades I have yet to meet a student that doesn't like to talk into a microphone. This open numerous possibilities for students to become story tellers and authors and hear their own stories.

CONNECTION:
It is sad to say that until this project, I had heard the term URL, used the term but never truly new what it meant or stood for! I need to be current and educated on web20 terms to enhance my classroom and be able to educate my students, who might know more than me in the world of technology!

Google maps:   

DEFINITION:
a “free” web mapping service application and technology that powers many map-based services. Bonk shares an example, “They can travel to places mentioned in the diary through an embedded google map of the location.”   Bonk, C. J. (2009). CONNECTION: This is a unique way to show children about various places we are studying or locate places we have read about. For the young child it is great to show a multi dimensional look at the world around them.

UStream/Project Based Learning/Graphic Organizers

DEFINITON:

CONNECTION:
A perfect connection is the example Bonk gives in which he was able to virtually be in two places at one time.
A teacher could be home on bed rest for a medical issue and UStream their lessons for a class.

Project Based Learning:

CONNECTION:

When students decide what projects they want to tackle, and teachers guide them to resources, on the Internet and in books, it helps to create a learning experience that they have a huge part in and since they are involved in the decision making process they have more interest and the experience becomes more meaningful.

CONNECTION: A great tool allowing children to "map" out a plan on a topic they are learning about. I have found that this is beneficial to students who may have some attention and focusing issues.

Social Networking/Skype/Twitter,Tweet/Viral

CONNECTION:

The process of building online communities, often accomplished both through 'groups' and 'friends lists' that allow greater interaction on websites. Meeting others with same interests helps with the growth and sharing ideas.

Skype:
DEFINITION: "A collaborative tool for free online peer-to-peer voice collaboration join people together for research.

CONNECTION:
In classrooms around the world skype can be used to discuss ideas and exchange data. One example is that skype can be used for language development. Students learning a language can get first hand practice skyping with someone that has the language being learned as their native language. 

Twitter,Tweet:
DEFINITION: A social networking tool that "...enables people to quickly connect and share information."

CONNECTION: Haven't totally convinced myself this is useful in the early ed. classroom but I can see the possibilities with older kids who are on a field trip to "tweet" events that are occurring. For example, the senior class of our school goes to Costa Rica every year for a mission trip. Tweets could inform others about the events of their trip.

Viral:
DEFINITION: 

refers the process of an article, video or podcast becoming popular by being passed from person to person or rising to the top of popularity lists on social media websites.

CONNECTION:
Viral videos, articles or podcast can be used for teachable moments when they are both beneficial or detrimental to the topic that has gone viral.
